What is Digital Literacy?

The American Library Association (ALA) defines digital literacy as “the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills.”

Who is eligible to register for our Digital Literacy Course?

Any adult 18 years of age or older interested in learning more about basic computer skills.

Our Courses:

BSP 4010 (80 hrs. blended instruction)

This course is designed to provide foundational digital literacy skills. The curriculum framework and the content of the instructional materials will focus on computer skills for basic operations and keyboarding, email and Internet skills, and learning technology-based job search strategies using resources. This curriculum is aligned with the Adult Education Content Standards for Digital Literacy.

Primary Learning Objectives:
• To learn introductory operations and functions of using a computer
• To navigate and use the internet for work and school, including communication via email
• To perform functions associated with common computer operating systems
• To use technology tools to locate and obtain employment

BSP 4011 (80 hrs. blended instruction)

This course is designed to build upon digital literacy skills by introducing them to specific computer-based applications. The curriculum framework and the content of the instructional materials will focus on learning about and using word processing software, spreadsheet software, and multimedia presentation software. This curriculum is aligned with Adult Education Content Standards for Digital Literacy.

Primary Learning Objectives:
• To execute word processing tasks using word processing software
• To create spreadsheets using spreadsheet software
• To create multimedia presentations using multimedia presentation software
• To use word processing, spreadsheets, and multimedia presentations in the context of
school and the workplace
